Over a decade on from its original release, Call of Duty fans say that Modern Warfare 3 needs a remake.
Funnily enough, there’s been a lot of talk about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III this week, but don’t get it twisted - this isn’t the remake that everyone’s been begging for. Instead, it’s the third game in the rebooted Modern Warfare series which began with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019). Someone at Activision really ought to do something more to set those game titles apart beyond changing all their numbers to Roman numerals.

After numerous rumours, the alleged ‘first-look’ for Modern Warfare III leaked online this week, but Activision quickly issued a DMCA notice to eradicate any semblance of it from the internet. However, the DMCA takedown itself literally referred to the game as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. Note the Roman numerals, my friends - it seems that Activision may have accidentally confirmed the game’s existence.

As exciting as that is, though, it’s Modern Warfare 3 that fans are really anchoring after. Over on Change.org, a petition has been launched to “remaster CoD MW3 for PS5 and Xbox Series X”, and at the time of writing, it’s managed to accumulate over 4000 signatures.
It’s rather strange that Modern Warfare 3 never received the remaster treatment when the original two Modern Warfare games did in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Although, if that four-year release gap is anything to go by, perhaps Modern Warfare 3 fans might be in luck in 2024? That’s pure speculation, mind you, but you’d really think that it’d be due to happen at some point.
For now, Activision hasn’t officially confirmed what the next Call of Duty game is going to be, so we’ll have to watch this space. In the meantime, if you want to sign the Modern Warfare 3 remaster petition, you can find it here.
