Cyberpunk 2077 sequel development update is exactly what we wanted to hear

We waited a long time for Cyberpunk 2077 to become the sublime experience it is today, so any news on its sequel that proves the developers are on the right track brings us joy and relief.

After learning that CD Projekt Red’s sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 was officially in full development, worry started to become palpable. It’s not that we don’t love the first game, just that after what went so wrong in the beginning, we’d hate to see the sequel suffer a similar fate.

Then there’s the excitement we feel over getting to explore even more of the neon lit world of this sci-fi action-packed RPG. Excitement that’s only been further heightened after the game director behind Project Orion, the codename for the sequel, gave us an update that’s music to our ears.

No, it isn’t launching sooner than expected – like we want to rush perfection – but it is in the “fun phase”, according to Gabe Amatangelo’s interview with IGN. “In the perfect world, when you're making a game, it's all ideation and concepts and putting stuff in concept art and then moving to the next stage once you're feeling solid about your ideas,” Amatangelo explained.

“We're in that stage, but it's kind of blurred, like prototyping some things as well as concepting some stuff and working on the story. So, yeah, we got some prototypes going on. We've got some exploration, some pipeline setup, some story ideas being thrown at the wall, back and forth, concept art, that kind of phase, the fun phase.”

The reason this is such a fantastic update is because it shows how determined CD Projekt Red are in making sure the mistakes of the past don’t affect its next instalment in the franchise. What is more, it shows the creatives behind the sequel are having fun.

A first glimpse at the sequel is a way off yet, however, we can be happy in knowing that the next The Witcher game is within reach… if we really stretch for it.
