Cyberpunk Red is the perfect RPG for fans finished with Cyberpunk 2077

If you’ve finished your umpteenth playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 and don’t fancy doing another, why not give Cyberpunk Red a try?

CD Projekt Red is officially done with Cyberpunk 2077, as the developer will no longer be supporting it with updates aside from the odd patch here and there. Instead it’s moving onto bigger and brighter things, one of which being The Witcher 4 and the other being a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 that’ll reportedly be using Unreal Engine 5.

That being said, if you've found yourself growing bored of CD Projekt Red’s sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk Red might be the fresh new spin on the IP that you’re looking for.

In short, Cyberpunk Red is a tabletop game very similar to Cyberpunk 2020. It can be played with as minimum or maximum effort as the players choose, with expansion sets available that introduce character models, backgrounds, weapons and a never-ending amount of lore. Players take turns rolling dice, staging battles between different factions and generally creating their own story like a sci-fi version of Dungeons & Dragons.

There are rules to follow like any good tabletop RPG, but you can always customise your experience with some house rules if you really want to.

Of course you won’t get the stunning visuals, great performances and streamlined gameplay the Cyberpunk 2077 will give you but it’s a decent little spin-off in its own right. It’s also packed full of lore so if you have an interest in the history of Night City and its inhabitants it’ll be well-worth considering.

The next Cyberpunk game being developed by CD Projekt Red shouldn’t be expected for a very long time, and that’s great news. The last thing we want is another broken, buggy mess at launch that has to be gradually fixed over time.
