If you’re looking for a cute, retro game to play on your PC right now, let us recommend this Nintendo 64 version of Celeste.

For those that haven’t played it, Celeste is a gorgeous 2D platformer that combines pixel-art with challenging gameplay. Players take control of Madeline, a girl with depression and anxiety as she ascends Mount Celeste and tackles several challenges along the way. It’s a phenomenal game and one you should absolutely check out if you have the time.

Now if you’ve already played the game, why not tackle Mount Celeste from a different perspective? A new version of the game upgrades the graphics from pixels to polygons and transforms it into a Nintendo 64 style platformer.

It’s called Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, and it was actually made by the same team that worked on the original Celeste and only took around a week. The new project was created in celebration of the game’s sixth anniversary and the best part is it’s 100% free-to-play via Itch.io.

The team recently shared the project on Twitter, announcing its completion with a nostalgic-looking gif of the game’s logo in N64-style.

It’s currently available as a download for Windows and Linux PC users, though don’t expect it to be as long as the original game. Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, is designed to just be a little bit of fun rather than a full-scale adventure, so it's no more than a bitesize platformer.

Nevertheless, it’s a great achievement for the team and a worthy celebration for six years of Celeste. Again if you haven’t played the original game please give it a try. It’s available on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC platforms.
