Assassin's Creed Odyssey next-gen overhaul may melt your PC

Assassin's Creed Odyssey next-gen overhaul may melt your PC

Assassin's Creed Odyssey has never looked better

Since the first game in the Assassin’s Creed series was released in 2007, it has become a very different beast, to say the least. It evolved from being a series of somewhat linear games with a decent amount of exploration to something more akin to the likes of a massive RPGs.

Some could argue that much of the RPG-inspired mechanics were implemented with the release of Assassin’s Creed III in 2012. However, it wasn't until 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins that that RPG inspiration was blown wide open which made its way into Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Though to be fair, despite retaining a lot of RPG-inspired mechanics, the most recent Assassin’s Creed Mirage did take the series back to its roots in many ways with a smaller map and more of an emphasis on stealth.

However, the focus of today’s discussion is 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and this fan-made next-gen overhaul that may run the risk of melting your PC. But it will be worth it, right? “Choose your fate in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. From outcast to living legend, embark on an odyssey to uncover the secrets of your past and change the fate of Ancient Greece,” reads the synopsis of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

To this day, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey still looks great, especially when being played on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S courtesy of its free new-gen update implementing a smooth 60 frames per second. Yet for PC gamers with the right set-up, the quality of video games from its visuals to performance can be taken up several levels and then some, such as this remaster showcased on the Digital Dreams YouTube channel.

The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey remaster is truly a joy to behold and I can only look on in envy wishing that I had a PC capable of working such wizardry. The remaster takes full advantage of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 with glorious ray tracing effects with an ultra graphics boost at an 8K resolution.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. If you've not played it already, you really should because it’s a fantastic game.
