Assassin’s Creed: Witch Hunt turns the franchise into a horror, and fans are eating it up.

As we’ve seen for several years now, the Assassin’s Creed franchise can be morphed into whatever Ubisoft needs it to be to stick out from the crowd. You could choose any place on Earth, during any time period, and stick an assassin there like the orange dude on Google Maps then boom, you’ve got an Assassin’s Creed game.

The next game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, will take players to Feudal Japan. Check out the teaser below.

Yet despite the overwhelming options, the past few games have lacked some soul which seems to be about to change with Assassin’s Creed Hexe, supposedly the spookiest adventure in the series yet.

There’s still a long wait to endure before we get there, but from what we already know, the game will focus on witch trials. Magic has been a prevalent force in the Assassin’s Creed world for a while now so there’s even a chance our characters will be wielding some cool spells, or at least technology that looks like magic to people from the time period.

If you want to see what Assassin’s Creed Hexe could look like, look no further than this YouTube video by Enfant Terrible called Assassin’s Creed: Witch Hunt.

The concept is set in Europe during the 16th century where witches are hung and burnt. While there’s unfortunately no gameplay to be seen, we can wholeheartedly say it looks remarkably spooky. The advanced lighting from Unreal Engine 5 creates some gorgeously dark environments, only illuminated by fires burning in the distance.

Whether or not this is what Ubisoft has in mind for Assassin’s Creed Hexe is anyone’s guess. If it’s set in a place like Salem, it could conflict with the series’ emphasis on parkour.

Overall though the game should definitely lean into more supernatural elements, and make it completely different in feel and tone to the other games.
