Elden Ring fans need to check out Dark Souls 3: Champion's Ashes

Elden Ring fans need to check out Dark Souls 3: Champion's Ashes

If you haven't endured enough punishment, there's always more to be found

We're being spoilt this year already, and it's only just the end of Feburary. As if the official reveal of Shadow of the Erdree wasn't thrilling enough (and a healthy top up of nightmare fuel), there's now a Dark Souls expansion that's screaming for our attention.

Dark Souls 3: Champion's Ashes is a NexusMods download that completely overhauls and refreshes what's easily one of FromSoftware's most iconic titles. We wouldn't say it's as good as Bloodborne or Elden Ring, but when it comes to strictly Souls only titles, Dark Souls 3 wins. Hands down.

Make sure you take the time to see exactly what's waiting for you in the Champion's Ashes mod.

Imagine how happy we were to discover this treat under our very noses, and free for us to enjoy. Those who've already tried this mod are incredibly impressed; one fan even offered to donate money to the modder who created it. Not that paying for good work isn't the bare minimum, just that it's rare to see people that blown away that they're willing to pay for a freebie.

Another fan said, "I love how fleshed out some of these move sets look. Really cool what one can do with cut animations/weapon arts and pre-existing ones to make weapons more unique to use." They continued, "This also saddens me to see that FromSoft didn't put more effort into the game's combat system. Just goes to show that sometimes the community does a better job than the actual devs. Keep up the good work."

We don't want to criticise the devs, though, as Dark Souls 3 was released back in 2016, making it a rather old game by industry standards. However, we do agree that what the modder has achieved here is truly wonderful.

If you need to prep for the new version of Elden Ring's worst boss ready for the DLC, playing Champion's Ashes is a fine way to do that, and will offer you a chance to savour a classic once more. It's a win-win.
