Fallout 4: Gun For Hire is an excellent expansion you can play free

Free expansions as good as this shouldn't be missed

Step aside, Nick Valentine – there’s a newcomer in the city who’s desperate to make an impact, be that good or ill, in Fallout 4: Gun For Hire. Diamond City might not be big enough for the two of you in this exceptional expansion.

Everyone loves Bethesda’s Nick Valentine, but when it comes to job opportunities, helping out his detective agency isn’t exactly a full time occupation. Sure, you need to find your son Shaun, but once that’s over, you sort of fade into nothing, having saved the day once again.

This is where Fallout 4: Gun For Hire swoops in to save you from the mundanity of humdrum life. This mod is expansive in its scope, having started out as a concept, it’s grown into something more bigger and all the more satisfying; delve into the complexities of factions, gain up to three followers, or simply cruise around the city in your vertibird.

Despite its intricacies, however, its creator FlashyJoer wants to make it clear that this free PC add-on isn’t a standalone experience. Although it delivers plenty of tasks, it’s designed to “fill the gaps than it is to provide a whole encompassing ‘story’”.

Whenever the wasteland gets too much, you can dip into your office, roundup your companions, and tackle a couple of jobs to decompress. That’s what Gun For Hire is all about.

For those of you ready to take on this additional job – as if saving the world wasn’t a huge task already – you need only head to Diamond City and look for the “Tardis-blue door”. Upon finding it, ownership will transfer to you and the life of a gun for hire can begin in earnest.

There are many more details about this mod you need to consider before installing it, so we advise you head to NexusMods and read them all. Besides, it’ll give you all the background information about your new agency that we’ve not mentioned (to avoid spoiling it for you).
