OG Assassin's Creed gets free remaster you can download right now

Assassin's Creed fans can enjoy a remaster of the OG game on PC.

This year is set to be quite an exciting one for Assassin’s Creed fans, with the launch of Codename Red on the way.

If the TV series Shogun has left you craving some more samurai action then Codename Red should scratch that itch as it’s set to take players to Feudal Japan.

The game will reportedly star a female shinobi and a male samurai, with the samurai possibly based on the real life figure of Yasuke.

Team NINJA are gearing up for the imminent release of Rise of the Ronin too, set in 19th century Japan.

I somewhat digress but the point is that this year’s Codename Red couldn’t be coming out at a better time.

We’re all itching to hear more about it, something that’ll presumably happen at this year’s Ubisoft Forward in several months time.

It’s assumed Codename Red will land in the final few months of the year but if you can’t wait that long to enjoy some Assassin’s Creed action, allow me to impart a recommendation.

Take a look at our preview of the aforementioned Rise of the Ronin below.

PC players can return to the series’ origins, albeit with a new lick of paint, thanks to the fantastic Assassin’s Creed Remastered Community Edition mod.

The project was created by NexusMods user shazzaam, although it utilises assets from fellow users hecumarine, crosire, segeanur, sergio1030, ciocolici, icons8, sony33d, and 00031.

“This is an attempt to make the definitive version of Assassin's Creed. I collected all of the good mods, patches and ReShade Presets and put them in one big package alongside my custom open source launcher that tries to automate things as much as possible,” the creator wrote.

The mod improves textures, implements higher quality lighting, makes a number of fixes, and allows you to skip the launcher.

It is totally free to download and has already been enjoyed by thousands of Assassin’s Creed fans.

It’s well worth diving into if you want to take a trip down memory lane without the inevitable jankiness that comes with playing a 17 year old game.
