Skyrim: The Paarthurnax Dilemma gives us the alternate ending we deserve

Upon meeting someone for the first time and learning that they have also played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, my first question is, “Did you kill Paarthurnax?” If they answer yes, the friendship will be short-lived. Luckily for them, one mod may just give them an alternative ending and a second chance at redemption.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can be considered as one of the most expansive games of all time with secrets and hidden features to be found all over its map. With a main quest to follow and too many side-quests to count, you will always have something to do. However, one important decision at the end of the main game is taken from you and that is one surrounding your dragon mentor, Paarthurnax.

The end of Skyrim will see your Dragonborn get tasked with heading to the highest peak and killing the wise dragon courtesy of the Blades. However, as somewhat of a constant companion and teacher throughout the game, killing or sparing Paarthurnax is no easy task and it is not surprising that many players choose not to slay the dragon.

However, sparing Paarthurnax will leave the game somewhat unfinished but now thanks to The Paarthurnax Dilemma mod, we can now get the alternate ending we finally deserve.

Created by Arthmoor on Nexus Mods, the mod adds a small expansion to the original quest which will allow your decision to have more of an impact on the story and characters.

“Disappointed with how ruthless and unforgiving the Blades were at the end of the main quest? Felt like you should have been able to put your foot down and make them see reason? Well now you can!” Reads the official mod synopsis.

Once approaching the quest and speaking to both the Blades and Greybeards, you can either decide to kill or spare the dragon.

“Should you decide to spare his life, return to Delphine or Esbern and explain it to them. You may have to be a bit forceful in the process. They may not like what you're telling them, but they're supposed to be there to serve the Dragonborn, right?"

"Should you choose to go through with slaying him, he will not be alone. Paarthurnax told you he was going to try and teach others the Way of the Voice, and he'll have his first group of students listening intently. Or, well, whatever dragons do when they're perched on rocks looking at each other,” the mod's creator added.

Although a small change, it is still an important one and will make sparing him all the more rewarding.
