Sonic Adventure Unreal Engine 5 remake is so gorgeous I could cry

This Unreal Engine 5 project shows what a remake of Sonic Adventure could look like.

Sonic Adventure is easily one of my all-time favourite entries in the Sonic franchise.

While Sonic Adventure may have been slightly outdone by its sequel, Sonic Adventure 2, in the soundtrack department, you cannot say that the game doesn’t exude joy - making for many hours of lighthearted fun.

It’s also getting on a bit now though, having first released all the way back in 1998.

If you’re an Xbox owner, you can still pick up the original release from the Microsoft Store. It’s currently priced at just £3.36.

That being said, it remains hard to obtain on many other platforms - and it could do with a few graphical tweaks after all of these years.

While there’s no official remake or remaster of Sonic Adventure in the works, as far as we’re aware, one fan has created a project that shows us what one might hypothetically look like.

Take a look at the time we sat down with Sonic himself.

The project is the work of YouTuber JeliLiam who created the game’s Emerald Coast in Unreal Engine 5.

Graphically, it boosts Sonic Adventure to being on par with 2022’s Sonic Frontiers.

It’s a project that JeliLiam originally began in Unreal Engine 4 before eventually shifting assets over to Unreal Engine 5, giving the end result just that bit of extra shine and polish.

It’s already gone down very well with viewers.

“If this is what a Sonic Adventure remake would look like, that’d be awesome,” one wrote, while another added, “It looks amazing. With every little detail, you [can] tell you put a lot of effort into the game. Can’t wait to see what else you do in the future.”

“SEGA, hire this man,” another viewer simply declared.

Once upon a time, a Sonic Adventure remake was believed to be in the works for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U.

Unfortunately, the project was seemingly cancelled before it ever saw the light of day but perhaps that’s a glimmer of hope that one day, we could see SEGA return to this beloved classic.
