Tons of Assassin's Creed games and other Ubisoft titles just became 'free' for PC gamers

Sometimes it feels like PC gamers are forgotten about when it comes to free games, especially those from AAA franchises. That’s why we’re delighted to reveal that dozens of Ubisoft titles are now free to play.

Included in the collection of free games are many Assassin’s Creed offerings, including Mirage and Valhalla, two games packed full of content. And while Valhalla is deemed the weakest AC game so far, it’s also deemed a fantastic RPG, so it’s definitely one to play if you haven’t already.

To unlock these freebies, you need to sign up for Ubisoft’s subscription service. We know, we know, you do have to pay some money to unlock all these games, but they’re still free in the sense you haven’t individually paid the full retail price for them.

In truth, Ubisoft Plus has been available for some time now. However, its recent update has overhauled its services to include Ubisoft Plus Premium and Plus Classics. Basically, it’s taken a leaf out of PlayStation’s book.

Although far from a new concept, it means that PC players don’t have to pay two sets of fees to access free games. Instead of paying for Plus Multi-Access and Plus PC Access, these gamers can now simply pay for the all-in-one Plus Premium.

Should newer titles not be to your liking, Ubisoft Plus Classics caters to older but still popular titles. Still, if you want to play the occasional new title, like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a game we described as “superb”, then Premium is the way forward. It’s the best of both worlds, and with the possibility to see the "Activision catalogue” added in the future, as hinted at by Ubisoft itself.

“This is on top of our extensive back catalogue, where you’ll have access to premium editions, DLC, and monthly rewards,” Ubisoft assures, and seeing as we’re suckers for Assassin’s Creed, who are we to say no…!
