Days Gone studio's new game is live service, we're afraid

We’re not sure this is a good idea. But what do we know? Apparently, nothing, as far as Bend Studio is concerned.

The developers haven’t said that to us specifically, just to clarify, however, they are going against the grain by venturing into live service territory. From the looks of things, this move is to fall in-step with Sony’s continued push into live service gaming, much to the dismay of gamers.

Don’t get us wrong, some live service games work and work very well. However, the vast majority end up killing the potential a title has through cash grabbing extensions that do little to satisfy fans. We’ve all seen it happen.

As a result, seeing the new Bend Studio IP not be a Days Gone sequel, and, further adding insult to injury, that it will be live service, is the stuff of nightmares for many.

This information comes from a job advertisement, discovered by Game Rant. In the job description, live service is mentioned, hence the panic that’s gripping the Days Gone fandom. “Hands-on game development experience in leadership roles shipping AAA live service games,” reads one of the many bullet point specs about the job; live service is mentioned several more times throughout the course of those specs.

Alas, that tease about a new game from the Days Gone devs is looking less appealing by the minute. It’s gutting, considering how much wasted potential Days Gone still has, as far as fans are concerned.

Before anyone worries that Days Gone is going live service, other hints from the devs have pretty much informed us that this new IP is wholly different to what’s gone before, both in in-game mechanics and narrative.

We hope we’re worried over nothing – that this new live service title will be a roaring success. But our guts tell us otherwise. Sony’s quest to maintain profits by extending the life of its new releases might work for some, but whether it works for Bend Studio remains to be seen.
