Days Gone gets gorgeous new-gen remaster you can download free

Over the years, countless video games can be considered underrated for whatever reason and one game that perhaps falls into that category is Days Gone.

Developed by Bend Studio, Days Gone was originally released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in 2019 before being ported to PC a couple of years later. However, it’s fair to say that when Days Gone initially launched on PS4 it had somewhat of a rough start. Some may have been put off by its slow-burn story which is a subjective opinion but there’s little denying that it struggled with the outdated PS4 hardware trying to accommodate hundreds of zombies on the screen at a single time with stuttering framerates.

Over the months that followed, the Days Gone experience improved on the PS4 but it finally reached its potential, at least in terms of performance with its free PlayStation 5 update in 2020. If you were initially put off by Days Gone, and you own a PS5, I recommend checking it out, especially if you subscribe to PS Plus Extra or Premium. However, thanks to the wonders of the PC modding community, Days Gone has been made even better all thanks to a new-gen remaster.

“Ride and fight into a deadly, post-pandemic America. Play as Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who rides the broken road, fighting to survive while searching for a reason to live in this open-world action-adventure game,” reads the synopsis of Days Gone.

The remaster in question is called ‘Dawn of the Dead - Reshade’ and it's been created by a team of talented indie developers, best of all, it’s available to download now for free via Nexusmods. The reshade mod enhances the colour, contrast and sharpening of Days Gone. What’s more, similar mods have been applied to the likes of the Resident Evil 2 remake, Control, Horizon Zero Dawn and more, and the results are quite incredible.

Unfortunately, as is the nature of most mods, this is only compatible with the PC version of Days Gone. However, as I said earlier, at least we can play a better version of Days Gone as perhaps originally intended on the PlayStation 5.
