Some video games get unfairly forgotten when it comes to remasters and/or sequels. We’ve seen it with Red Dead Redemption, though at least that got a port, albeit an underwhelming one. But what of technological marvels like Days Gone? That is incredibly deserving of a sequel, yet no new instalment is on the cards.
We already know, as much as we try to deny this fact, that Sony turned down the pitch for a sequel back in 2019. It’s a wound that never quite heals, especially because Days Gone has amassed such a loyal following, with a “very positive” rating on Steam. Granted, its initial reception was a mixed bag, but that seems to have dropped off as time has gone on.

Yet, while we know the likelihood of a sequel happening is ridiculously small, we can’t help but beg for Sony to reconsider. Not just because the story is still left unfinished, but because this is a game that blows minds when “300 zombies can be on screen with no slow-down”. It wasn’t always as seamless as it is now, with plenty of bugs discussed within the first week of its release. However, the devs worked their magic to address the issues, leaving fans with a memorable game that warrants a revisit.

“It had a great story,” said one longtime fan. “At one point about halfway through the game, one of the side characters asks the protagonist Deacon why they keep living, why they keep going on. Deacon just replied, ‘Because what the f**k else are we gonna do?’ This line made me tear up, and as someone who struggles with depression, it hit hard for me.”
We’ll admit that Deacon is far from a saint, with many of his traits essentially large red flags waving violently in the air. But do protagonists need to be idealistic for a game to get a sequel? We’d argue no. Plenty of other characters, both in games and film, have been less than perfect, yet we still follow their stories because we want to see where it goes.
It’s a distant dream that a Days Gone sequel will happen, even though so many fans want it. But at least we can play the original game on Steam and PlayStation; that’s something, at least.
