Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has launched with a pretty serious error

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has launched with a major error affecting those based in Japan with a physical copy of the game.

Today is finally the day. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is out in the world but for those who’ve acquired a physical copy and happen to be based in Japan, you’re going to need to pay close attention to a statement issued by Sony. If you have a physical copy, you’ll know that this whopper of a game comes on two discs, a data disc and the disc you need to play the game. The issue is that due to a manufacturing error, Japanese physical copies have the wrong label on the wrong disc.

Essentially, those affected will need to first insert the disc labelled ‘Play Disc’ to install the game followed by the ‘Data Disc’ to actually play it. “Due to a defect in our manufacturing process, an error occurred in the label printed on the disc surface and the content recorded on the disc in the Japanese version package disc (2-disc set) of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth released on February 29, 2024,” read a statement on PlayStation’s site. “By taking the steps listed below, you will be able to play the game without any problems. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.”

Weirdly, fans are actually celebrating this error with many saying that these copies could become pretty collectible in the future. “Damn I wish I'd have gotten a copy like that. Will be worth decent money one day,” wrote one Reddit user, with another adding, “These will end up being collectors' editions 20 years from now.”
