Thousands of Lord Of The Rings fans petition to remake classic PS2 games

Thousands of Lord Of The Rings fans have signed a petition in the hopes that EA will remake their classic PlayStation 2 games.

We all have a handful of games that just ooze nostalgia. For me, those games are Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and The Sims 2. I know though that for many people it’s EA’s classic The Lord of the Rings entries.

I’m going to admit it. I haven’t played these games myself, but I did bear witness to watching my older brother play them. At that age, I was likely playing Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase (a banger of a game). The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring landed in 2002, before EA took over for 2002’s The Two Towers and 2003’s The Return of the King. It’s no secret that it’s the final game which is the most beloved out of the three, but fans would love to see EA revisit the whole kaboodle, with some even putting together a petition.

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria is the latest game in the franchise.

The petition was started by change.org user Thibo V who wrote, “EA, remaster classic LOTR games. I am a big fan of the classic LOTR games like Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and The Two Towers, and I would love to see these games remastered with new graphics by EA.” At the time of writing, the petition has amassed several thousand signatures. It’s got a goal of 5,000, with 3,711 people having signed so far.

The petition was actually set up several years ago, but creator Thibo V just dropped a fresh update: “It's been quite some time since I last checked this petition, it has grown quite big. Sadly, EA so far hasn't answered any pleas or petitions. I think we should continue the cause until they can't ignore us any longer. I will keep this petition up as long as I can. Thanks for all the donations and support to this petition.”

It’s heartwarming to see the continued efforts of fans. While this petition, as it stands, isn’t enough to sway EA, it clearly shows that there’s an appetite for these remasters. That’s always a solid starting point.
