It’s fair to say that it’s been a mixed bag when it comes to officially licensed video games based on popular movies and TV series. A lot of the time, we can get absolute bangers, but on other occasions, we get the likes of the atrociously named Superman: The New Adventures aka the infamous Superman 64.
Yet, for every Superman 64, we are treated to instant classics such as GoldenEye 007, Batman: Arkham Asylum and South Park: The Stick of Truth to name a few, more than enough to make everything right in the world. With that in mind, gamers on Reddit have been discussing their favourite licensed video games of all time.

Many video games were mentioned including Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, The Simpsons: Hit & Run, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, but the video games inspired by the J.R.R Tolkien novels, The Lord of the Rings were the hottest topic of discussion on the thread.

“Movie tie-in games for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Really fun hack-and-slash games when all tie-in games were trash sold to kids like my dumbass,” said matva55. “I would love to play these again.”

Sadly, it's unlikely we’ll ever return to the golden PS2-era days of The Lords of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Your best option is to perhaps grab a PS2 or original Xbox and hunt down some retro games of yesteryear. Happy hunting!
