Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a phenomenal game, yet, when it comes to awards, it’s not received the praise it’s due.
As chuffed as I was to see Baldur’s Gate 3 dominate The Game Awards 2023, I, like the rest of the GAMINGbible team, felt that Spidey was overlooked. After all, this is a game that we gave a ten out of ten score, numbers we don’t give out lightly.
Fortunately, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is finally being shown some respect thanks to the DICE Awards. Everyone’s favourite neighbourhood spider is in the lead with nine nominations in total, with Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 coming up the rear (a saying that seems particularly apt for BG3).

As if you need reminding how incredible Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is!
Arguably, the issue was that too many amazing games were released in 2023. Yes, what a cross to bear(!) Yet it proved to be the undoing of many critically acclaimed titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which got nominated often but yielded no awards.
Now the DICE Awards looks to be attempting to remedy that grave injustice, with Spidey in the running for the Game of the Year title. Unfortunately, the superhero has some stiff competition to overcome, with the number of nominations meaning little when it comes to who claims the glory. We saw this at the Game Awards – Spidey had seven nominations yet won nothing.

We really hope Marvel’s webbed friend gets to walk away with at least one award, ideally in Outstanding Achievement in Animation; the game looks incredible, with the fluidity of its animations second to none. If any award is owned by Spider-Man, please let it be this one.
