Miles Morales officially Insomniac's 'main' Spider-Man going forward

Miles Morales will officially be Insomniac Games' main Spider-Man going forward, it has been confirmed.

While Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 may not have been officially announced, Insomniac Games has already confirmed which of our two webslingers will be its lead.

It’s only a matter of time before a sequel is revealed. If you’ve finished Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 you’ll know that the ending and post-credits scenes quite clearly set up what’s referred to as ‘The Final Chapter’, teasing the involvement of several characters both old and new. The in-game universe looks set to expand beyond that too. We’ve already got a pretty good idea about upcoming DLC, plus it looks as if both Venom and Daredevil spin-offs could be on the way. It’s clear that this franchise will play a major role in Insomniac’s future - and it’s a franchise that’s set to be led by Miles Morales.

Take a look at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in action below.

That’s right. Miles Morales is set to take over as the series’ lead Spider-Man. Narrative director Ben Arfmann and advanced writer Brittney Morris confirmed as much in a recent interview with Gizmodo. On having Miles as the lead, Morris said, “It always felt very natural, and I think we all collectively thought it would happen. To me, it shows a great deal of evolution from Miles; at the beginning of the game, we see him struggling to figure out what he wants to do with his life.”

“By the end, we had Miles carrying the burden of saving the city, and also carrying Pete when Pete wasn’t strong enough to carry himself at various points,” she continued. Pete will naturally still feature though. By the end of the story, spoiler warning, Pete tells Miles that he’s ready to hang up his suit for a while as he focuses on his personal life. We all know though that the second Miles runs into trouble, particularly when it concerns some of Pete’s previous foes, Pete will suit back up in seconds.

I’d argue as well that while both Spideys experienced huge character development in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Pete took centre stage thanks to the symbiote. It makes perfect sense that we could see Miles challenged in the next story. All I know is that my mind is already brimming with excitement over the possibilities and I cannot wait to see what Insomniac is cooking up.
