New God Of War RPG will bridge gap between 2018 game and Ragnarök

We will always welcome a new God of War game. After all, the series has provided banger after banger since its inception on the PlayStation 2 in 2005.

Arguably, the two best entries in the series along with God of War II and III, released in 2007 and 2010, respectively, would be God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022). At the time of writing, other than the fantastic and free ‘Valhalla’ DLC, the full sequel to God of War Ragnarök hasn't been announced by Santa Monica Studios, but a sequel may have been teased in the DLC.

Until a new sequel or even a remake arrives, tabletop board game developer CMON has announced a new God of War RPG that bridges the gap between God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök. This would be the second God of War game from CMON with the fun God of War: The Card Game released in 2019.

“God of War (2018) features series protagonist Kratos and his young son, Atreus, as they embark on an epic journey through the Nine Realms of Norse mythology while fighting to protect their family from fearsome creatures and powerful gods. Using this setting as inspiration, our team created a board game that will let players explore and meet fan-favourite monsters in a brand new way,” said CMON when the news was first announced in November 2023 with an upcoming crowdfunding campaign, and now we know when that campaign goes live.

God of War: The Board Game which will have its crowdfunding campaign go live sometime in April via Gamefound, will be playable between one to two players with each game lasting about an hour or in my case, several hours after I’ve read the instruction manual several times over and still get confused by the rules.

God of War: The Board Game will offer a choice of eight campaigns in the base game and will see you take on ruthless enemies and boss encounters. Players can be either Kratos or Atreus, with one of the main enemies is Freya, following the events that transpired in the 2018 game. It will also come with awesome miniatures and the crowdfunding campaign will unlock extras as each milestone is achieved.

No release date has been announced for God of War: The Board Game, yet but seeing as its launching as a crowdfunding campaign, delays should be expected.
