PlayStation 5 Pro release date teased, is 'world's most powerful console'

Sony may still be yet to announce a PlayStation 5 Pro but the console feels like a given considering the sheer number of leaks.

It’s been rumoured for quite some time now that the PlayStation 5 Pro has somewhat been made with Grand Theft Auto VI in mind, with the goal being that the console’s stellar performance would make PlayStation the definitive platform to best experience this landmark release on.

If that proves to be true remains to be seen, but the console’s supposed release window has now leaked online and it’s most definitely adding fuel to that fire.

In a new report by Insider Gaming, it’s claimed that the PlayStation 5 Pro will target a 2024 holiday release, suggesting either a November or December launch.

That’s not all. The console’s specs also seem to have surfaced.

This documentation was first brought to light by YouTuber and known leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead, with the specs then corroborated by Insider Gaming.

Insider Gaming claims that the documentation was recently sent out to third-party developers via the PlayStation developer portal.

The document confirmed that the console will render 45% faster than the current PlayStation 5.

It’s also due to feature “2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases), 33.5 Teraflops, PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution,” in addition to “custom machine learning architecture [and] AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8 bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point.”

Insider Gaming adds that it’s believed a future version of the PS5 Pro will support 8K.

Dev kits have reportedly been available to first-party studios since September 2023, with third-parties gaining access in January of this year.

Sony is supposedly now rolling out test kits which resemble the final commercial product.

Insider Gaming also notes that the console’s holiday release could change given Sony’s current lacklustre end-of-year release slate.

Until this is all confirmed by Sony, do take the information with a pinch of salt.

That being said, I’d start saving those pennies, Sony fans. This does feel like a case of there’s no smoke without fire.
