PlayStation 5's latest release has a near-perfect score on Metacritic already

PlayStation 5's latest release, Baldur's Gate 3, has a near-perfect score on Metacritic.

It’s a big day in the world of gaming. While the release of Starfield may be dominating headlines, today also sees Baldur’s Gate 3 release on PlayStation 5 - and it’s garnered an incredible review score.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a surefire GOTY contender. If you didn’t know, the game was released on PC a few weeks ago. One speedrunner has already managed to beat it in less than five minutes. Yes, you heard me right - five minutes. Yesterday, developers uncovered a bug that unintentionally made romanceable characters way hornier than intended. I’m sure players didn’t mind though as we’ve been seeing all kinds of weird sex scenes crop up online, including one with a bear and one with a Mind Flayer. It’s a game that is equal parts weird and wonderful - and now PlayStation 5 users can join in the fun.

Take a look at Baldur’s Gate 3 in action below.

Baldur’s Gate 3 previously landed an incredible review score of 96 for its PC release. Many wondered how the enormous game would run on PS5, but it’s now landed an even higher review score of 97 on the console. This is likely to change as more reviews are published. GAMINGbible’s own PS5 review of Baldur’s Gate 3 remains in progress. We can dive into what some critics have already said though.

Push Square gave the game a perfect score, saying, “Baldur's Gate 3 is the new reigning RPG monarch, demanding your homage with its insane level of depth and detail. Even if its gameplay might move too slowly for some, it's hard not to be astounded by the sheer scope of this adventure. An epic in the true sense of the word, Larian's latest is a game that can utterly consume your life for days, weeks, months, even years, should you embrace its brilliance.”

JeuxVideo rated the game a score of 95, writing, “Baldur's Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 has nothing to envy with Baldur's Gate 3 on PC. Larian Studios didn't sacrifice its RPG to run it on Sony's console. This role-playing game retains all of the content of the PC version (even local cooperation via split screen) and offers an optimal controller experience. The few faults of BG3 are still present (in particular the ‘pad’ interface), but for the rest, it is flawless.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 will launch on Xbox too later this year.
