The specs for the upcoming PlayStation 6 have leaked, and if true, the next-gen console is shaping up to be a mighty fine piece of kit. Maybe even too fine for the specs to be believed, at least without official confirmation.
Sony’s partnership with AMD looks set to continue, if these leaked PlayStation 6 specs are to be taken as gospel. What this means, is that the next PS console will potentially be capable of 8K 60fps gaming; it almost sounds too good to be true.

Yet, if you look at the plans for the PS5 Pro (it’s a beast), those capabilities seem more than reasonable. The next PS5 model – which is due to launch this year – is rumoured to run at 4K 120fps and 8K 60fps. If that’s the case, then it’s a no brainer that the PS6 will be able to do that and then some.

As always, though, not everyone is convinced. “Love AMD, but I’ll believe it when I see it,” said one sceptical gamer. “8k, assuming no upscaling, is extremely resource intensive.”
It would be extremely ambitious. However, as another Redditor queried, there’s no proof that upscaling won't be used. “Why would you assume no upscaling? Shouldn’t one assume upscaling and AMD fluid frames [...]?”
Many anticipate that the PS6 will utilise PSSR upscaling, which if true, will ensure that 60fps can be consistently maintained. However, as leaker Tom Henderson reminds us, “it's unclear if those internal milestones can be passed.”
Although Sony is aiming for such high-end specs, whether it actually manages to achieve that in a way that is profitable for them, yet affordable for the masses, is another matter entirely. Still, “future console iterations” are hoping to hit that sweet 8K 60fps spot, and we hope that they manage it.
