Where did that come from?

Completely out of nowhere, one of Xbox’s biggest 2022 exclusives has arrived on PlayStation. A huge win, for sure, but where the heck did that come from?

Generally speaking, when an exclusive game makes it way over to another platform, the devs make a pretty big deal out of it in the weeks and months before its release. After all, spreading out to other platforms means that thousands of gamers who missed out on a game back at its initial release can finally play it, giving it a whole new resurgence of popularity. However, that’s not what's happened with High on Life, for some reason.

Take a look at the trailer for High on Life below.

Squanch Games’ comedic FPS first released on PC, Xbox One and Series X/S on 13 December 2022, and the internet was promptly overwhelmed with clips of the sentient, talking weapons saying silly things and berating players for pausing the game. Given that it released on Xbox Game Pass on day one, it felt like pretty much every Xbox owner was getting stuck into it - it’d be very understandable if any PlayStation users felt a bit left out. Not anymore, though.

High on Life is available on PS4 and PS5 right now, following its announcement at San Diego Comic-Con. As IGN reports, Squanch Games’ studio director, Mike Fridley, said: “The fans have spoken. And spoken. And spoken. We’ve been thrilled with High On Life’s reception since it launched in December. Our PlayStation fans have been slightly less thrilled, which is why we’re so excited to share that it’s coming their way very soon. Like, now soon! Thank you for your patience!”

It was previously revealed that a DLC expansion, titled High on Knife, is releasing later this year. According to Fridley, the DLC is going to be “a little spooky this time around”, and could break players’ dreams “for a while”. Given the humorous nature of the base game, it’s pretty surprising to hear that the expansion is going to lean into horror elements like this.

The High on Knife DLC will release at some point this autumn.
