Sony has found itself in deep waters recently with the disappointing titles being added to its PlayStation Plus service over the past few months. Now to add fuel to the fire, it has decided to add 2023’s most cursed game to its catalogue.
Revealed yesterday, Sony announced it would be adding two new games to the PS Plus premium service but in a trial form. As a result, Baldur’s Gate 3 will be playable for two-hours whilst The Lord of the Rings: Gollum (yep, you heard me correctly) will have a one-hour free trial.

With one title being a Game of the Year contender and the other well, being a game, they will both be accessible for a limited time for PlayStation Plus premium subscribers. As you can imagine, this has led to equal amounts of disappointment and laughter as The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was less than a successful title when it was released back in May of this year.

Telling the story of Gollum as he makes his escape from Mordor on the search for his Precious, the adventure game was criticised for its unimaginative missions, bland environments, poor graphics and repetitive gameplay. As a result, the game currently sits at a “mostly negative” rating on Steam and even led to the developers Daedalic Entertainment issuing an apology statement.
Not only that but the development studio soon saw itself shutting down shortly after the game’s release and would instead go back to focus on publishing. In a year with many contenders for Game of the Year, it is safe to say that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum won’t be taking home any trophies.
In related news, Lord of the Rings: Tales of the Shire is an upcoming adventure game combining Stardew Valley with Middle-earth. It is expected to be released sometime in 2024. Let us hope there is no Gollum to be seen.
