PlayStation Plus bug is making our free games unplayable

PlayStation Plus bug is making our free games unplayable

PlayStation Plus users have identified a bug that's making certain titles unplayable in addition to causing some safety concerns.

PlayStation Plus users are being affected by an unusual bug that’s causing some games to become unplayable.

It’s fair to say that PlayStation Plus is only a good deal if we can actually access the vast catalogues of free games that our subscription fee entitles us too, so I’m sure you can already see why this bug might be causing annoyance.

As reported by GameRant, PlayStation Plus users have identified a bug that tries to launch certain titles’ PS4 and PS5 versions at the same time despite this not being a native feature of the PlayStation 5 console.

In some cases, as was identified by Reddit user TheLeftBoy, this results in severe screen flickering which could be harmful to those with epilepsy or similar photo sensitivity issues.

“Help. I just wanted to play The Force Unleashed II on PlayStation Plus,” wrote the user, showing that game’s screen flickering before it randomly flashed over to Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns has just landed on PlayStation Plus’ extra tier. Take a look at the game in action below.

Fortunately, some users report that simply closing and relaunching affected titles can fix the issue. Another said they had to do a power reset and system update via Safe Mode, which is a tad more long-winded.

There’s still the risk though that certain PlayStation Plus games could launch with that potentially dangerous flickering.

Some made light of the situation. “I think you are supposed to play Sly Cooper, my friend,” wrote _mywifeleftme.

“Sly Cooper IP has been dormant for so long it’s becoming sentient and trying to force people to play it again,” added SpideyStretch1998.

Sony is yet to address the problem, so I’d recommend that you get in touch with customer services should you experience the bug yourself.

The quicker that Sony is made aware, the quicker the glitch can be rectified.

We’re just mere days away from finding out what April’s essential tier line-up will consist of.

In case you missed it, extra and premium tier users recently gained access to NBA 2K24, Marvel's Midnight Suns, Resident Evil 3, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Super Neptunia RPG, Blood Bowl 3, Mystic Pillars: Remastered, and LEGO DC Supervillains, whilst premium subscribers can also enjoy Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier, Cool Boarders, Gods Eater Burst, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, and JoJos Bizarre Adventure AllStar Battle R.
