PlayStation Plus new free game is one of the best we've had in years

Last year we had to endure some slim pickings when it came to PlayStation Plus. Occasionally, a game surprised us, but for the majority of subscribers, the service was a disappointment.

Cancellations, boycotting, and heated rants later, we’re finally in 2024 and things already seem to be looking up for PS Plus users. There’s still a long way to go before the damage from underwhelming free games is rectified, meaning that users are still bracing for a bad batch of games next month. Nonetheless, one of its latest free titles is a fantastic starting point for that healing to begin.

Tinykin is saving the day one new download at a time, with those who’ve already explored its unique aesthetic singing its praises over on Reddit. “This is probably the best addition to the [PS Plus] Extra catalogue in a very long time,” posted one fan. “It carries the spirit of old-school 3D platformers from the early 00s.”

Now, if that isn’t a vibe, we don’t know what is.

Other PS gamers quickly added to the growing love for the 2022 release, with one saying, “Yeah, a hidden gem in the catalogue for sure, loved my time with this,” further showing that this is one of those titles you don’t want to miss out on simply because you haven’t heard of it before.

If you’re still not sold on this free game, this Steam review will definitely seal the deal. “Tinykin is a love letter to collect-a-thon games, very reminiscent of the classic Nintendo 64 games back in the day.” It continues, “Its 3D puzzle platformer also takes inspiration from Pikmin, whereby you acquire Tinykin to help you solve puzzles throughout the game. It definitely stands its own ground with being a completely different game from [the] aforementioned Pikmin, spliced together with satisfying, but not overly challenging, platforming.”

Honestly, we don’t get many days to sing the praises of PS Plus at the moment, so let’s come together and make the most of having such an incredible game to enjoy on its service.
