PlayStation Plus' new free games have over 113 of gameplay

The latest batch of PlayStation Plus games boast an impressive 113 hours of combined playtime, making for a solid month of gaming fun.

July’s offerings were particularly strong, of course, with gamers getting access to Alan Wake Remastered, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and the harrowing Endling - Extinction is Forever. You have just a few more days to download those games so if any sound of interest, act now. I'd suggest Endling, but do be aware that it's one of the most stressful games you'll play this year.

PlayStation Plus subscribers had high hopes for August's free games, and while not everyone is convinced the new batch of titles really delivers, there's plenty of fun to be had if you're willing to take a chance.

In case you missed the announcement earlier this week, the free games for PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers in August are: Death's Door, PGA Tour 2K23, and Dreams. Not a bad mix at all, especially given that Dreams is quite literally thousands of games in one. Yes, a lot of them are essentially interactive shitposts, but there's some genuinely brilliant work in there too.

Anyway, the PlayStation Plus subreddit went to the trouble of doing the math and worked out there's over 113 hours of gameplay between all three games. Not a huge amount, perhaps, but pretty decent value for money.

Using Howlongtobeat.com as a starting point, we can see that PGA Tour 2K23 takes around 32 hours for completionists. I'm not sure how many people will want to spend 32 hours playing virtual golf, but it's there if you want it.

Next up Dreams offers at least 66 hours, but there's scope for so much more. It's a very easy game to just dip into every now and again and lose yourself down a rabbit hole of weird and wonderful creations, even if you don't feel you have the ability to create anything yourself. Trust me when I say there are whole-ass games in there that are really good.

Finally we have Death's Door, which is my own personal top pick for the month. Getting through this charming Zelda-inspired adventure can take you around 15 hours, making it an excellent little game to beat in a few weekends. The post-game stuff is also brilliant, and you'll want to do it all.

So there we have it. 113 hours of sheer joy, give or take a bit of golf.
