PlayStation Plus new free game is going down well with subscribers

You may want to head on over to PlayStation Plus as the latest offerings have now arrived, and a certain day one release is proving to be fairly popular with subscribers.

In case you missed it, you can now download Foamstars, Steelrising, and Rollerdrome - a line up which fans described as being “thrilled” by. If you’re not aware, Rollerdrome is a critically acclaimed third-person shooter that sees you attempt to take out opponents while zooming around a giant arena. Steelrising is perhaps one for you soulslike fans, as this action RPG sees you transported to a deadly alternate version of Paris, set amidst the French Revolution. The premise of Foamstars is a lot, well, sillier. Square Enix’s new release sees you engage in enormous 4v4 foam fights.

There are three multiplayer rounds to enjoy, Smash The Star, Happy Bath Survival, and Rubber Duck Party. Each sees you team up with three fellow players in a varied series of 4v4 battles. You can also choose to play through solo story missions or squad story missions. I myself sampled the game last night with a couple of friends and while I can’t say it’s a lifechanger, I definitely had fun and plan on playing again. Smash The Star is easily the best round.

It sounds as if I’m not the only PlayStation Plus subscriber that the game has gone down well with. “It’s fun. It’s a mix of Overwatch and Splatoon. I wouldn’t have paid for it, but I’m glad I have it in my library now,” wrote JannJans, while BasisOk4268 added, “It was enjoyable I thought. Lots going on, on the screen. Movement feels too heavy though for something that should be fast paced.”

“It’s fun. I like it,” SnafuMist commented, with DiamonDawgs similarly saying, “I had fun, I like the visuals and the music is a bop. They gotta balance something with the movement speed though.” I agree, I kept attempting to sprint, thinking that would be an option so it would be helpful to see devs add in such a mechanic. Otherwise though, if you’ve a subscription, it looks as if Foamstars is well worth diving into for some silly, low stakes fun.
