PlayStation Plus next free game is a PS1 banger, and fans are hyped

A classic PlayStation 1 game is being teased for PlayStation Plus, and fans are getting excited.

A classic PlayStation 1 game is being teased for PlayStation Plus, and fans are getting excited.

One of the next additions to PlayStation Plus’ game library could be a classic Star Wars game, specifically STAR WARS Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

In other news, the GTA VI trailer is out now! Check it out below

As reported in a tweet by Gematsu, the old Star Wars game has been rated for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in Taiwan, which obviously indicates it’ll be rolling onto the platform at some point in the future.

Since it’s a bit more obscure than the latest additions to PlayStation Plus, it’s safe to assume it’ll be joining the digital store as a standalone purchase, as well as the subscription service as a free game. It’s more than likely to join as a PlayStation Plus Premium game like other PS1, PS2 and PS3 titles.

For those unaware, STAR WARS Episode I: The Phantom Menace is an action/adventure game following the events of the first film in the Star Wars timeline. Players will become Obi-Wan Kenobi or Qui-Gon Jinn, and in some levels Padme Amidala or Captain Panaka. Like most Star Wars games the objective is to fight through the levels using lightsabers, force powers and blasters to take down a near-endless amount of Separatist droids.

Unfortunately, it scored quite poorly when it launched, and hasn’t gotten any better over the years, but nevertheless, fans are excited at the prospect of it joining PlayStation Plus.

Replying to Gematsu’s tweet, one fan said: “YES!!!! I Love that game, hopefully it has trophy support.”

Another added: “It was one of the first games I ever played on the PC ... Overall I remember it being a pretty fun adventure game for the time.”

Finally, one excited fan said: “Wow that's awesome. I've always wanted to play this one.”

PlayStation is yet to confirm if the game is coming to PlayStation Plus, but if it’s been rated for PS4 and PS5, it might as well be confirmed right?
