Stardew Valley fans should check out this free PlayStation Plus game

The term “indie darling” can be thrown about quite easily nowadays whether a game may or may not deserve such praise. However, one such game that can most certainly be labelled as an indie darling is the beloved Stardew Valley.

Released in 2016 and developed by indie studio ConcernedApe, Stardew Valley is a relaxing farming sim in which you become one with your lovable pixelated community. “You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?” reads the description.

There are many pretenders hoping to capture the magical essence of Stardew Valley and few can replicate its charm and success. A game that looks to replicate some of that success but is a delight in its own right is Moonlighter developed by Digital Sun and published by 11 bit studios. Judging by its Steam reviews, Moonlighter has been well-received by the community, with one gamer scoring it a 10/10.

Moonlighter not only looks to have an essence of Stardew Valley, but also roguelite games such as The Binding of Isaac, Cult of the Lamb, Enter the Gungeon and more. “During a long-passed archaeological excavation, a set of Gates were discovered. People quickly realised that these ancient passages lead to different realms and dimensions – providing brave and reckless adventurers with treasures beyond measure,” states the ominous synopsis of Moonlighter.

Moonlighter is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Best of all, not only is there a free playable demo on the Nintendo eShop, but subscribers to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium can play Moonlighter now at no extra cost. Happy days!
