Starfield developer roasts outlets asking for PS5 review codes

Starfield developer roasts outlets asking for PS5 review codes

According to one Bethesda worker, some Starfield reviewers unironically asked for PS5 codes. Who's going to tell them?

Who’s enjoying Starfield? That’s right. Bethesda’s epic space RPG is finally out in the world. Early access kicked off last week for those with the Premium or Constellation editions. Waiting to join in on the fun? You don’t have much longer to wait as access opens up to all this coming Wednesday 6 September.

At the time of writing, Starfield has an Xbox Metacritic score of 87 and a PC score of 88. In our review, we scored Starfield a perfect 10, writing, “Every now and then, a new game comes along that changes our perception of what the industry is capable of. Starfield is that game. This is beyond what we’ve come to know an open-world to be. Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout.” It’s no surprise so many people are keen to join in - and according to one dev, some reviewers have been requesting PS5 code … Who’s gonna tell them?

Take a look at our video review of Starfield below.

As reported by Dexerto, Bethesda’s senior director of PR Matt Frary took to Twitter to announce, shockingly, some reviewers had come to him asking for PS5 code. He wrote, “Now that it's the weekend... shout out to the small handful of reviewers who requested a PS5 code unironically. I may not have responded, but just know ... you made me laugh.”

He added, “This isn't a console dig. It's a dig at contacts not checking their work. Angry people out there ... find a way to let the anger go. It's ok.” It’s no secret that Starfield is an Xbox console exclusive. The only other place you’re going to be able to play it is on PC, so it seems like a few hopeful reviewers didn’t do their research ahead of asking for code.

Already, Starfield is one of Twitch’s most-viewed games as players dive into this expansive release. I expect we’ll hear about big sales and player numbers in the coming weeks.
