Last month, The Last of Us Part II officially turned three years old. How time flies! It seems like only yesterday that fans of the series were screaming, crying and throwing up over a certain golf-related spoiler which happens within the game’s opening hours, but maybe that’s because they never really stopped.
Although The Last of Us Part II released solely on the PS4 (since the PS5 didn’t hit stores for a few months after the game’s release), there’s no doubt that it’s still a stunning sequel - fans recently hailed it as having the greatest video game graphics of all time. Now though, as Dexerto reports, we may have just received our first big hint that a PS5 re-release is on the way.

In a new interview with Blender on YouTube, Gustavo Santaolalla, who composed the music for both The Last of Us and its 2020 sequel, seemingly let slip that a “new edition” of The Last of Us Part II is on the way. During the conversation, the interviewer makes reference to the fact that Santaolalla has a cameo in the sequel - a character modelled to look like him can be spotted playing the banjo in Jackson. Responding to this, Santaolalla reportedly said (translated by @Naitor_5 on Twitter): “Now in the new editions you're gonna be able to make me play certain tracks, and well, I can't tell you anything else.”
Now, it needs to be said that this shouldn’t be taken as hard confirmation - he could have been joking, speculating, or even talking about his wishes for any future instalments of The Last of Us. It’s still pretty promising though, but it makes you wonder what a PS5 re-release of Part II would actually consist of. After all, the existing version already got a new-gen update, so it’s not that it needs a frame rate boost.
