The Last Of Us Part 3 may have just been accidentally confirmed

Neil Druckmann may have just teased that The Last of Us Part 3 is in development.

It’s the game that so many of us are eagerly waiting for. Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann may have just teased that The Last of Us Part III is in development. Unfortunately, it is just that: a tease.

Fans are desperate to hear what Naughty Dog are cooking up. The studio hasn’t released an original game since 2020’s The Last of Us Part II. Since then, we’ve had the remade Part I plus there are rumours of a PS5 native Part II. That’s all well and good, but fans want something truly new. It looks as if the TLOU multiplayer project has been temporarily canned after fellow studio Bungie highlighted concerns over the longevity of the game. It would’ve reportedly been shown off during PlayStation’s summer event had that not happened. Naughty Dog have since teased a new single-player experience plus Druckmann has confirmed that he’s writing and directing his next game … Could that be Part III? Well, he’s answered that question.

PlayStation’s next major exclusive is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which swings onto our consoles on 20 October.

If The Last of Us Part III was going to exist, it would almost certainly be written and directed by Druckmann given it’s a franchise he remains deeply attached to. It also seems a no-brainer for Naughty Dog to create a Part III given Part II’s colossal commercial and critical success, alongside the renewed interest in the franchise thanks to the HBO show. Well, Druckmann recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly who pressed him on the matter of the unannounced title.

"As far as the next game at Naughty Dog, I can't say anything," he said. "My comms director over there will slaughter me." Back in 2021, Druckmann teased that there was a story outline for the game. Someone, confirm this damn thing already.

Druckmann also added that season two of the HBO show is "outlined and ready to go as soon as the strike ends". We’ll have plenty more The Last of Us content before long.
