Starfield is hiding an amazing Lord Of The Rings Easter egg

Starfield players have found a cheeky reference to one of The Lord Of The Ring’s most iconic lines of dialogue.

The in-game universe of Starfield is enormous, and while only about 10% of its planets have life on them, it hasn’t stopped players from hopping to each and every one of them to search for useful materials and secrets.

Unfortunately, the planets have caused quite a bit of controversy for Bethesda’s ambitious new title, mainly due to the boundary limit that prevents players from wandering across an entire world in one go. Instead, players need to re-enter their custom-made starship, leave the planet, and select another area to touch down on.

Some players were also disappointed that you can’t seamlessly fly from planet to planet, as one streamer piloted their ship for seven real-life hours to get to Pluto, only to discover they needed to fast travel there in order to load the world.

Despite all that though, people are enjoying the game, and are having a great time wandering about, attempting speedruns, trying some old Bethesda gameplay tricks, and much much more.

Now, players have found a very subtle reference to the world-famous The Lord Of The Rings series, in one of the item descriptions.

If you have a rummage through your inventory and happen to find a potato or two, take a look at its description, as eagle-eyed Tolkien fans will instantly recognise the reference. The description reads: “Can be prepared in many ways. Boiled, mashed, used in a stew- the recipes are nearly endless,” which is obviously referencing Samwise Gamgee’s famous line from The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers.

Obviously, someone at Bethesda was a fan and stuck the reference in while writing out the description. It’s a cute little detail though, and it’s likely one of many.

Starfield officially launched for Xbox and PC players today, and can also be played via Xbox Game Pass.
