If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to cross the swashbuckling fun of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag with the tactical gameplay of Baldur’s Gate 3, then I may have just the recommendation for you. The very fun Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew could be the perfect game for you.
Developed and published by Mimimi Games, Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew launched back in mid 2023. In this stealth strategy RPG, you’ll be tasked with joining a ghost ship and assembling a motley crew. It’s up to you and your crewmates to “embrace magical powers to defy the menacing army of the Inquisition, who stand between you and the mysterious treasure of the legendary Captain Mordechai.” Set during the golden age of piracy, it’s definitely one that’ll appeal to all of you would-be buccaneers.

The Inquisition has taken over a string of islands referred to as the Lost Caribbean, haunted by the so-called Curse of Lost Souls. If you want to succeed in taking these lands back for yourself, you’ll need to pull off epic heists, find valuable treasure, infiltrate fortresses, and slowly push back enemy lines. I should add that once you’ve assembled a crew, you’ll be able to play as each of the different characters, taking advantage of their unique powers.

Upon release, the game garnered a very respectable score of 85 over on Metacritic. GameSpot awarded the game a nine, writing, “Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is, through and through, a delight. The inventive setting, swashbuckling macabre tone, an enjoyable cast of phenomenal characters, and a compelling gameplay loop all come together for a uniquely satisfying stealth-strategy experience,“ while IGN matched that score, adding, “Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is a peak example of the stealth tactics genre from a studio that is clearly mastering its craft.”
