CS:GO 2 has become Valve's worst-rated video game of all-time

Oh dear. Counter-Strike 2 has already become Valve’s worst-rated game of all-time on Steam, only a couple of weeks after it was released.

Counter-Strike 2 was launched on 27 September on PC as a free successor to the incredibly popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. While the thought of a new and improved successor may sound exciting, fans mourned the fact that its release spelt the death of their beloved CS:GO. That sense of disappointment has now only increased as players claim that Counter-Strike 2 pales in comparison to its predecessor. Already, the game has been review-bombed on Steam with fans complaining about the absence of certain multiplayer maps and modes - although these will hopefully be added further down the line. It’s had a major impact on Counter-Strike 2’s rating.

As reported by Insider Gaming, Counter-Strike 2 is already Valve’s worst-rated game of all-time on Steam. At the time of writing, the recent reviews are classified as ‘Mixed’. Quite confusingly though, Steam has merged CS:GO’s reviews with its successor’s, seemingly boosting the ratings of the new release.

“However you feel about the update to CS2, CS:GO should not have been delisted. Also, merging reviews of GO into 2's is very dishonest,” wrote one unser. “Releasing an unfinished game and removing the original, good job,” sarcastically declared another, while one review read, “What was the point of releasing this? A large amount of features and modes that were in CS:GO are just gone.”

It’s a similarly sad picture on Metacritic, with users rating the game a measly 3.0. To compare to other Valve titles’ user Metacritic scores, CS:GO sits at 7.2, Half Life sits at 9.1, while Left 4 Dead has a score of 7.8. I can’t imagine Valve reinstating CS:GO but hopefully we’ll see various modes and maps added in Counter-Strike 2.
