How the West was built

If you love Red Dead Redemption, chances are you'll be very interested to check out the latest free download available now on Steam.

One of the best things about Red Dead Redemption is, for my money, its Wild West setting. It's a fascinating chapter in our history, and one Rockstar Games manages to capture perfectly. It's a damn shame, then, that there aren't nearly enough Westerns in modern gaming.

Take a look at some of the best Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below!

If you agree with me, then I'm delighted to let you know there's a brand-new Western on the scene. Better still, you can download and check it out on Steam for free right now.

"Governor of the West is a turn-based game of exploration, resource management, and outlaw placement set in the Old West," developer La Volière explains. "Choose a starting character, explore the West, recruit your gang, build up your town, and maybe -- if you play your cards right -- become the Governor!"

What we have in Governer of the West, then, is a marriage of Red Dead Redemption and Civilization. And I'm sorry, but if that doesn't sound absolutely perfect to you then we can't be friends.

The full game releases 28 June, but you can play the demo now to get a feel for the flow of the thing.

No two games are the same, the developer promises. You'll get dropped onto a procedurally-generated map with a rotating selection of characters and perks to make the best use of. As you work your way through the game, you'll doubtless land on different strategies and paths to victory.

It sounds like a thoroughly intriguing game, so if you feel we need more Westerns in the world of gaming, be sure not to sleep on Governor Of The West.
