Stardew Valley meets Fall Guys in this wild new game

Upcoming 'silly' farming sim Southfield is a mixture of Stardew Valley and Fall Guys, and it looks like so much fun.

Stardew Valley and Fall Guys are two games I wholeheartedly adore and have sunk many, many hours into. Imagine my delight then when I stumbled across Southfield, an upcoming physics-based farming game which seems to combine the best of both worlds.

Southfield is in the works at developer Radical Forge. “Weird farming meets silly physics in Southfield,” begins the synopsis. “Combine chaotic crops with unpredictable effects, build your dream farmstead, and experiment with playful machinery. Wobble your way around an ever-changing island solo or with up to three friends and unearth its secrets.” I can always get behind a game that describes itself as silly. You don’t know the true meaning of fun if you don’t engage in a bit of silly goosery from time to time.

Take a look at Southfield in action below.

In Southfield, as the synopsis suggests, you’ll own your own farmstead - full of ‘chaotic crops’ and ‘wacky machinery’ - which should appeal to Stardew Valley fans, albeit with a zany twist. As for you Fall Guys players, you’ll want to try out the tractor racing and lily-pad jumping, or use the various pieces of farm machinery (including cannons and moving platforms) to create fun obstacle courses.

I should also mention that Southfield, like Fall Guys and Among Us, introduces us to a new kind of bean person. Buds are “freshly sprouted from the land itself” but nobody knows exactly whence these “silly creatures” came to be. I am already so sold on this game. Buds are essentially jelly-blob like creatures, with devs noting that they’re particularly uncoordinated.

Southfield doesn’t offer an idyllic paradise. The Buds’ island home is plagued by ‘Ruffians’, spectral mischief makers who will attempt to destroy your crops. While the game isn’t out just yet, it will be launching in early access very soon on Steam and you can wishlist it now. Yet another one to watch for 2024.
