Steam's latest free download is perfect for The Last of Us and Oxenfree fans

PC gamers are in for a treat thanks to Steam’s latest free demo that's undeniably perfect for fans of The Last of Us and Oxenfree.

As many of you will agree, Steam is a treasure trove of indie games, with many using the platform to feed their love of horror. With tons of free downloads having dropped recently, now is the time to test those indie waters if you haven’t already, and we’d argue that The Night is Grey is a fine way to do just that.

This “cinematic thriller” is told through “digitally painted and fully animated panoramic backgrounds” across various locations, all of which follow the story of Graham, a man lost in the woods. It’s giving us serious Oxenfree vibes, with us still in awe of its pitch-perfect sequel. Not only is it similar in looks and atmospheric tones, but The Night is Grey is also a point-and-click adventure with many puzzles to solve.

But we’d be lying if we said it’s only Oxenfree that this Whalestork Interactive title reminds us of, as it also has undertones of The Last of Us, especially in the way Graham discovers an unknown girl in the forest who needs his help – it’s very Joel and Ellie. And with the HBO series suffering from delays thanks to Pedro Pascal, this game might be the balm we need to see us through until it airs.

Currently, The Night is Grey’s launch is slated for 5 January 2024, which isn’t that far away (sorry, but the end of the year is approaching at lightning speed). However, as with all games, delays might occur, so make sure to stay alert for any updates on that.

As far as we’re aware, the game will only be available on Steam, for both Mac and Windows. But again, if the game is successful, it could also head over to the Nintendo Switch. For now, make sure to check out the free demo on Steam.
