Steam has, without warning, ripped a popular 2K game off the online store just two years after it was released.
It was a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment especially if you’ve been enjoying all the huge AAA games that have graced Steam over the last few weeks, like Helldivers 2 which is at an all-time high in terms of players and still growing.

Unfortunately it’s not all fun and games, as a popular wrestling game, WWE 2K22, has been delisted from the online store and other digital storefronts, and is now unobtainable to those who didn’t buy it before the takedown.

This isn’t a complete surprise, as the servers for the game were switched off earlier this year so if you were still playing you were unfortunately doing it alone. Previous WWE 2K games have also suffered similar fates, mainly in an attempt to get players to buy the newest one, which will be WWE 2K24.
Alarmingly WWE 2K22 had the shortest lifespan in the series when considering the game’s launch and its delisting. This obviously sets quite a bad precedent for the next game, as well as raises the problem with annual releases in general.
The next game to release will be WWE 2K24, which will pack over 200 playable characters into its roster spanning the long history of wrestling. According to our preview by our very own Richard Lee-Breslin, who said the game makes a few minor tweaks and changes to the series’ formula that make a huge impact on the overall experience.
WWE 2K24 will launch on Xbox PlayStation and PC via Steam on 8 March later this year, and hopefully has a slightly longer lifespan than its predecessor, otherwise fans might be in for yet another surprise delisting.
