Steam responds to The Day Before controversy by announcing 'The Day After' sale on survival games

Skull Island: Rise of Kong and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum can breathe a sigh of relief. The Day Before has undoubtedly bagged the title of 2023’s worst video game.

It’s no real surprise that The Day Before has already been pulled from sale, with many players labelling it a scam. The game couldn’t quite decide whether it was an MMO or extraction shooter. On top of that, the visuals paled in comparison to those shown off in recent trailers, and the game was full of bugs, visual glitches, and questionable animations. It was soon hit with thousands of negative reviews before yesterday, studio Fntastic announced that the game would be pulled whilst the studio would also be shutting down citing it financially unviable to continue development.

It’s undoubtedly been a messy couple of days. Players are in the midst of applying for refunds, and it’s a shame that The Day Before failed to fulfil the vision it pitched. If it’s left you craving a bit of decent survival gameplay though, Steam has responded to the debacle with the slightly cheeky ‘The Day After Survival Bundle’.

In this brand new offer, fans can purchase DayZ and Icarus for a combined price of £42.53, saving a respectable 33%. “This special bundle combines two of the most immersive survival games on Steam,” the offer reads. Developed by Bohemia Interactive, DayZ is an open-world MMO set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies. Icarus comes from RocketWerkz, and is a PvE survival game set in a “savage wilderness in the aftermath of terraforming gone wrong”.

The offer is only available until 21 December, so you have just days to grab this bundle. Steam boasts that the bundle “provides players with a chance to experience the stark contrasts of survival - from the relentless threats of a zombie-infested landscape to the unexplored dangers of an extraterrestrial planet.” Well, Steam is certainly seizing the moment.
