Fallout 3 free 60fps 4K ‘remaster’ available now for Xbox gamers

Xbox gamers are full of praise for the console's unofficial 4K 60fps 'remaster' of Fallout 3.

Chances are high that most Bethesda lovers will currently be busy playing a little game called Starfield, but if you’re not? Well, here’s a perfect chance to revisit the past.

It’s no secret that Bethesda brand-new space adventure Starfield is something of a banger (we gave it 10/10 in our own review), but who can resist the allure of simpler times? Fallout 3 might be a little janky in that classic Bethesda way, but thanks to the power of the Xbox Series X, it looks and runs better than ever.

Take a look at our review of Starfield below!

One of the best features on the Xbox Series X/S takes classic games like Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3, and enhances their resolution and framerate. It’s the kind of feature that PC gamers have probably been enjoying for years, but as a console philistine I’m fully here for it. I recently gave Fallout: New Vegas a blast on my Xbox Series X and was blown away by how much better it looked.

Reddit user Eglwyswrw drew attention to Fallout 3’s unofficial remaster in a recent thread, saying it’s the: “best time to revisit this gem!”

Certainly, even with Starfield offering us thousands of planets to explore, you can’t really beat the quiet immersion of wandering the ruins of Washington while your Pip Boy serenades you with crooned tales of a long-lost era.

“Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a - wait wrong game, Fallout 3 was so f****** good!,” one user joked.

Another added: “These games are freaking dangerous. I started playing Skyrim a while ago, currently 160 hours in and it feels like the game will never end. I keep finding new stuff and quests (not just the generic ones). Hopefully I can make it before Starfield!”

“The best Fallout by far,” a third user who appears to have mixed up Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout 4 has yet to receive an official boost to its visuals, although it’s coming. A free new-gen update for the 2015 game was announced last year, but Bethesda has been pretty quiet about it since. I would assume this is because they’ve been working their butts off on a massive open-world game filled with multiple galaxies to explore. But that’s just a hunch.

Anyway, play Fallout 3 and find out how hard it still goes in the year of our lord 2023.
