Current-gen Xbox consoles are powerhouses when it comes to backwards compatibility, not only letting you play your old favourites but also boosting their framerates and resolutions to be more suited to a modern platform.

While the changes aren’t akin to something like a remake or proper remaster, they’re very much appreciated by fans.

At the time of writing, players can now play upgraded versions of two phenomenal Bethesda RPGs, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. These games were responsible for Fallout’s shift to first-person, and are well-worth revisiting today, especially Fallout New Vegas which is arguably the best title in the series. Both can also be played at no additional cost if you’re subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.

While Fallout New Vegas is the clear winner amongst the pair, Fallout 3 definitely deserves some more love, shown as much through a Reddit post. One user wrote that it’s the “best time to revisit this gem”.

Fans couldn’t agree more, recalling some of their experiences and opinions of the pair. “Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a - wait wrong game - Fallout 3 was so good," wrote one fan. “I would pay so much money for New Vegas to be remastered," said another.

They’re not the only Bethesda titles to benefit from Xbox’s game boosts, nor will they be the last. Bethesda has confirmed there’s still plans to upgrade Fallout 4, though it’s taking a lot longer than expected.

Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are available via Xbox Game Pass, or can be paid for separately.
