Major PlayStation exclusive accidentally teased for Xbox

PlayStation exclusive Final Fantasy VII Remake could be heading to Xbox.

The Final Fantasy series is one of the most popular video game franchises of all time - and it’s a series that continues to grow in popularity.

The original Final Fantasy VII was released in 1997 for the OG PlayStation and quickly became one of the greatest and most beloved video games ever created. The love for the original FFVII is reflected by its Metacritic scores of 92 from critics and 8.9 from users.

Check out the Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer below.

Since its launch in 1997, the original Final Fantasy VII from Square Enix has seen multiple ports outside of retro and modern PlayStation platforms including PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch as well as mobile devices. However, in 2020, we were treated to a glorious remake built from the ground up for PlayStation 4, which later arrived on PC and PS5. On Metacritic, Final Fantasy VII Remake never quite fared as well as its source material with a score of 87 from critics and 8.1 from users.

Over the last couple of years, there has been a seemingly endless flow of rumours suggesting that Final Fantasy VII Remake would one day be headed to Xbox, ending its console exclusivity. Sadly, those rumours are yet to come to fruition, but that hasn't stopped fans from living in hope. However, as reported by Dualshockers, a now-deleted post by Xbox Brazil on Twitter has sparked renewed hope that Final Fantasy VIII Remake is Xbox bound. The image in question featured FFVII daddy and all-around good guy Barret in celebration of Father’s Day, which was celebrated in Brazil last weekend on 13 August.

Of course, this now deleted image could mean absolutely nothing and the image of Barret could have been posted with no intention of reigniting the rumour mill. That being said, Final Fantasy XIV was recently announced for Xbox, a game that was previously a PC and PlayStation exclusive, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Final Fantasy VII Remake could finally be headed to Xbox. We certainly hope so.

As for the more definitive future, the second part of the remake, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is currently scheduled to be released in early 2024 for PlayStation 5.
