PT fans rejoice, Kojima is working on a new horror game with Get Out director

PT fans rejoice, Kojima is working on a new horror game with Get Out director

Hideo Kojima has unveiled his upcoming Xbox exclusive OD which he's collaborating on with Jordan Peele.

It wouldn’t have been a true Geoff Keighley-fronted showcase without an appearance from bestie Hideo Kojima. The hard-working devs may have been ushered off the stage after 30 seconds, but Kojima stopped by for a lengthy segment to unveil his previously announced Xbox exclusive.

The Game Awards 2023 brought us very few actual award presentations, but plenty of reveals. Make of that what you will. Jurassic Park: Survival is on the way, a new survival horror set in the iconic dino park, as is God of War Ragnarök Valhalla, a new free DLC that will launch next week. Arkane Lyon is working on Xbox’s first AAA Marvel exclusive, Marvel’s Blade. Elsewhere in the showcase, Rise of the Ronin got a release date and No Man’s Sky developers Hello Games unveiled a new Earth-sized game. If you’ve been sitting there wondering what Kojima has been cooking up for Xbox though, wonder no longer. OD just got its first look.

Take a look at the perplexing trailer for OD below.

I say ‘wonder no longer’ but you’re actually likely going to be wondering for quite a while yet seeing as it’s one of the vaguest trailers I’ve ever seen. We know that OD is a horror and that it’ll star Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. Kojima is also teaming up with Nope and Get Out director Jordan Peele who described the game as “unlike any other”.

Explaining OD, Kojima teased that he was utilising Xbox’s cloud gaming technology to make something really immersive, “something no one has done before”. He said, “It is a game, don’t get me wrong but it’s a movie. A new form of movie”. I would argue that we’ve seen plenty of game/movie interactive hybrids, so I’m intrigued to see what Kojima’s unique take on this is.

Peele isn’t the only collaborator. Kojima joked about an ‘Avengers’ style team but wouldn’t share any other names for now. It’s exciting to see Kojima return to horror, but it’s also tricky to get hyped about a game, or … movie … or whatever this is until we know a tad more.
