Starfield could still hit PlayStation 5 thanks to planned Xbox feature

Xbox reportedly wants to enable cloud streaming for Sony platforms, meaning you could theoretically play Xbox exclusives on your PS5.

Loads of new info regarding Xbox’s plans for the future recently leaked online, all due to the FTC trial for the Activision-Blizzard deal forcing Microsoft to share its upcoming business plans.

So far, we’ve got a glimpse of the new Xbox controller, which is basically a PlayStation 5 DualSense, a sneak-peak at a new Xbox launching next year, with a bizarre design, as well as plans for the next console generation, launching sometime in 2028 alongside the PlayStation 6.

Another detail that was shared though was Xbox’s desire to streamline the cloud-streaming experience. The company has pushed cloud gaming a lot recently, allowing players to stream games from their Xbox Series X/S consoles to phones, computers and other devices wirelessly.

Now, Xbox wants to give players on PlayStation 5 the chance to stream Xbox games directly to their system, which would let them play several Xbox exclusives like Halo, Starfield, and future Bethesda titles.

The idea would be to enable PlayStation 5 users to go on the built-in web browser and stream the games through there, provided they have the right internet connection, though it all relies on whether Sony wants to play ball, which is doubtful at best.

In a tweet shared by Tom Warren, several key Xbox staff like Phil Spencer and Matt Booty, reportedly had a conversation around the potential of cloud streaming to Sony consoles, believing that while it would be theoretically possible, it’s highly likely that Sony would block it.

It’s not just PlayStation that Xbox want to work closer with though, it recently came out that Microsoft wants to acquire Nintendo. The two brands currently have a 10-year partnership deal, which Xbox seemingly wants to make permanent.

Seems like Xbox has a lot of interesting plans for the future, meaning they’ll definitely be a company to keep an eye on to see what they do next.
