Xbox is launching a new console this year, and my word it's a stunner

It’s all systems go over at Xbox, it seems. It’s been clear for some time now that there’s a definite sense of change in the air.

Back in February, Phil Spencer took to the official Xbox podcast to announce that the company would be looking to launch some of its former exclusives on other platforms.

A rumour suggesting that the line-up would include Starfield was quickly proven to be untrue, with Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, and Hi-Fi Rush instead chosen as the exported games.

It’s looking as if Xbox is already planning its next line-up of games to be shipped off to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Alongside this, it’s rumoured that Xbox’s first handheld may be in the works, plus that storefronts including Steam and Epic Games Store could arrive on the brand’s consoles.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, a new Xbox has now seemingly been discovered. I did say it was all systems go.

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle is set to launch on Xbox consoles later this year.

According to a report by Exputer, an digital-only Series X console is on the way - coloured white to differentiate it from its black disc-tray counterpart.

Footage of the supposed upcoming console was shared with Exputer by an anonymous source, with the report adding that it’s expected that the console will launch in either June or July, although delays are possible.

Exputer added that they don’t have concrete pricing just yet, but estimated that the console could come in $50-$100 cheaper than the regular disc-tray Series X.

I can definitely see the appeal of this console. Personally, I tend to purchase physical games if I can but that’s an activity I rarely do on Xbox.

Xbox Game Pass offers a stellar array of digital titles including major day one releases. This updated Series X would be perfect for people, like me, who find themselves mostly sampling that selection.

The updated console is also believed to boast an improved heatsink and an upgraded Nexus Card, boosting connectivity.

This mid-gen refresh is not to be confused with Xbox’s next-gen console which is also in the works.

Xbox’s Sarah Bond previously teased that this console would mark “the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation,” on the official Xbox podcast.

As with any leaks and rumours, do take all of this with a pinch of salt. Saying that, all signs do seem to point to a digital Series X arriving soon.
