If you didn't manage to get your mitts on a pre-order for the PlayStation 5, this new promotion with Burger King may be the solution to your problem.

Teased yesterday on Twitter, the official Burger King account posted a video of their mascot with the caption, "do Whopper sandwiches normally do this?" The King peered into a much-too-tall takeaway bag, as blue light shines on his face and a sound plays. He then closes the bag, checks again, and the blue light glows again and the same sound plays. As he walks away with his "order," a date appears: October 15th. Given that the official PlayStation also quote-retweeted the video, we knew that the two companies were moving and shaking to reveal something exciting.

That something is, in fact, a giveaway for a number of PlayStation 5s. Industry insider Wario64 let the... console out of the bag ahead of tomorrow's announcement, and the contest rules require participants to purchase any two for $5 meal at any participating Burger King between October 15th and November 22nd. With this purchase, they'll be entered into the contest for a chance to win a PlayStation 5. As well as this, Burger King will be giving away codes for PlayStation 5 games: Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Demon's Souls, and digital codes for three-month PlayStation Now subscriptions.

Alternatively, entrees are able to participate without purchase by writing their full name, full mailing address, email address, phone number, birth month, and birth year on a plain 3x5 inch sheet of paper. This lets participants enter the contest on a daily basis, based on the postmark date. This might be a more attractive option if you are dead set on winning a PlayStation 5, but you don't want to be wading through receipts for countless two for $5 meals. Just make sure you use recyclable paper and envelopes.

With one thousand PlayStation 5s available to win, this should soothe some of the headache of securing a next generation console. The pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 were announced with little to no notice, and were only listed on select retailers, causing sites to crash and stock to disappear within hours. In spite of this chaos, PlayStation head honcho Jim Ryan said that the company expects the PS5 to outperform its predecessor (for a refresher, the PlayStation 4 shipped seven million units by the end of its first financial year).

It's a bold estimation, especially considering the impact of the pandemic on the global economy and people's livelihoods. Still, 72% of next-gen pre-orders in the U.S. were for the physical edition of PlayStation 5.
